Monet at the Museum

Looking back on my visit to the Denver Art Museum (DAM) for the Monet exhibit, I wish I could do it all over again. I felt giddy like a child going on a field trip. Monet has been an inspiration to me in how he uses color and his mark making techniques. I’ve always admired how he learned the academic side of painting. Then deliberately choosing to deviate from the norm and break all the rules. Seeing his work in person is a real treat. I bought the museum’s catalog book and does not compare to his paintings in person. They are so colorful with a multitude of hues weaving in and out of each other.

We Almost Didn’t Make It

I remember in early January trying to get tickets to the Claude Monet The Truth of Nature exhibit at the Denver Art museum. My mom and I were thinking it would have slowed down after the Christmas season. Boy were we wrong. Every day and all times were sold out for the rest of the show. We were upset; both my mom and I love Monet’s work.

Then one day, I was looking through my LinkedIn feed and saw a post about the DAM extending their hours for the exhibit. I immediately checked their website and saw open times. Running up stairs I showed my mom the times. We picked 9:30 PM on Jan. 28th. Knowing I was going to be there until midnight, I took the next day off from work. Thank God my mom can work from home. She could sleep in a little the next day.

When we got to the museum, I was surprised to see so many other people there. It was nice of of the museum to leave some of the other galleries open while we waited for our time to enter the exhibit. It was pretty crowed but worth the while. The paintings were absolutely gorgeous.

If you got to see the show, you know no picture will do the original justice. I wanted to share with you all some of the pictures I took. For those who didn’t get to go, I hope these pictures inspire you. For those who did, I hope they reignite memories of when you were there. Sorry but these we’re taken on my phone so they don’t have the best angle. So many people were there and I didn’t want to block others’ view trying to get the perfect angle.

Aside from painting and gardening, I’m good for nothing.
