The 30 Day Challenge
30 Day Challenge: The Beginning and End of Days
For the month of September, I will be attempting a 30 day challenge. Thirty paintings in thirty days. That’s a lot of paintings, for a short amount of time. I won’t just be painting small studies but large paintings as well. This is definitely going to test my stamina and mental capacity. I think the most challenging part will be pacing myself so I won’t get burnt out.
The medium will be split in half between soft pastel and oil paints. The sizes will vary from 5 inches by 7 inches to extremely large 24 inches by 48 inches. My theme will be sunrises and sunsets, the beginning and end of each day. My favorite time of the day. After all the paintings are completed, I’ll host either an in person reception or an online event. All of them will be available for sale. More details about the event and sale later on.
But Why the Challenge?
The main reason is to see what I can do in a set time. There’s a saying, if you have all day to do something you’ll take all day. But if you only have 2 hours to do the same thing, you’ll finish it in two hours. I find setting a time limit for certain tasks helps me stay organized and productive. I want to see what would happen to my art if I set a time limit. Would I create similar art to what I had before? Would it be worse? Or would it be better? No matter the outcome, I’m bound to learn something about myself.
Sunrises and Sunsets
The beginning and end of each day have this certain solitude to them that can’t quite be put into words. It’s the stillness in the air as the world awakens by the sun or silence of the night creeping in. It never ceases to amaze me how different the sky looks at these times during the day. There’s always something new and it fascinates me. How the sky fades from blue to green and yellow and finally this faint pink. You can see every hue from the color wheel just as the sun peers around the horizon. I guess you can say I’m obsessed with color. Maybe this is why I like sunrises and sunsets so much.

Final Thoughts
This challenge is not like other ones I’ve done before. I’ve already scheduled out my days and allowed for some down time. Hopefully I won’t be too burned out from the amount of work. Maybe with this challenge, I’ll inspire others to challenge themselves.
So follow and cheer me on this crazy challenge. And wish me luck.
